To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release, and thanks to our gracious sponsor Nagios, we have rented out a theater at the Mall of America for a private viewing party on September 10th. The doors will open at 6:30, the movie will begin at 7pm. Admission is free, and the theater has a decent selection of concessions available for purchase. DC612 Meeting Thursday April 9th 6pm @ Elsies

Written by  on April 2, 2015

This month, Josh More is going to be presenting on “Hacking the Job Market”. Below is the talk description and bio:

Hacking the Job Market, Josh More
There is considerably more skill in the IT and security communities
than is reflected in the jobs people are able to attain. Most people’s
limiting factor in their ability to get better jobs is not technical
skills or even the soft skills necessary to do well in a new job. It
is that getting a job is a completely different skill set and one that
most people only practice every few years. We live in a world where
our personal data is no longer ours to control. Fortunately, that
applies to our prospective employers as well. It’s time to turn the
world’s proliferation of data to our advantage. This presentation
explains the job hunting process, why the most commonly followed
models fail and how to better approach the search. It covers deciding
to leave your current job, researching new possible job opportunities,
targeting your new boss, controlling the job interview process and
negotiating your new compensation and the departure from your current
job.

As this is a DC612 talk and not my usual audience, we can pause the
talk at any time and dig into real-life recon on companies you may be
interested in.

About me:
Josh has more than fifteen years of experience in security, IT,
development and system and network administration. Currently, he runs
Eyra Security, a security and business improvement consulting firm
based in Minneapolis, MN. Josh holds several security and technical
certifications and has served in a leadership position on several
security-focused groups. He writes a blog on security at
www.starmind.org, often taking a unique approach to solving security
problems by applying lessons from other disciplines like Agile
Development, Lean Manufacturing, Psychology, Economics and Complexity
Science.
