DC612 – Thursday, November 10th – 6pm @ the Wilde Roast

Written by  on November 2, 2016

Greetings, fellow humans!

Join us this Thursday, November 10th at 6PM at the Wilde Roast to eat, drink, and socialize (all within acceptable parameters).

This month, we will be entertained by Josh More as he shares his adventures in Nicaragua, photographing endangered hawksbill turtles using infrared flash:

I got the opportunity to travel to Nicaragua and take photos of critically endangered hawksbill turtles. The challenge is that if you take photos of them using regular flash, you disrupt the laying process and harm both the individual and the species. So I had to find a way to do infrared flash reliably… and I succeeded.

He will be bringing some of his gear along, and we will turn down the lights to experience the various flash settings hands-on.

As always, bring your appetites and help ensure that we keep getting invited back!

September… Again? Sure!

Hey all!

So, at our somewhat-regularly-scheduled meeting on September 6th we were approached by @transranea with an offer to speak about Faraday.  The only catch is, she will be leaving town before our October meeting!

So, never wanting to miss a cool talk, we decided to hold two – count ’em – two meetings this month!

The next meeting will be September 26th, at 6PM once again at the Wilde Roast in Minneapolis.  It definitely fit our needs last time, so we plan on being there for the foreseeable future – Our October meeting will still take place at the beginning of the month, and we plan to be at the Wilde Roast for that one as well.

See you all there!

UPDATE – July Meeting Location Change

Written by  on July 13, 2016

We just learned that Community Keg House has shut down!

After many frantic phone calls, I managed to secure a room at Kafé 421 in Minneapolis at the normal time of 6PM.  They were kind enough to book us last-minute at no charge, so please save your appetites and order something there.

421 14th Avenue SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414

Sorry for the confusion!

DC612 Meeting Thursday, July 14th – 6PM @ Community Keg House

Written by  on July 9, 2016

Hello!

This month’s meeting will again be at the Community Keg House in Minneapolis.

As this is the last meeting before the DefCon in Vegas, I will be doing a short presentation on what exactly DefCon is.  I’ll cover some of the things you can expect to see, give some general survival tips, and share some cool experiences from cons past.

If you are planning on going and it is your first time, this is a great chance to ask questions and help prepare.  And if you are on the edge about going, hopefully this will convince you!  Obviously those of you who have been there before and will be returning need no convincing  🙂

See you then!

DC612 Meeting Thursday, June 9th – 7PM @ Community Keg House

Written by  on June 2, 2016

Hey folks!

This month’s meeting will once again be at the lovely Community Keg House in Minneapolis.

We’re starting a little later than usual this time due to a reservation just before us, so plan to meet out in the main area if you’ll be showing up early – we can always eat and drink until our room becomes available!

We’ll be visited this month by Chad Walker, a local security professional who will be showing us Cryptomancer, a “tabletop role-playing game made for hackers, by hackers.”  From the site:

It features an original fantasy setting and gameplay informed by diverse security disciplines. Players assume the role of characters on the run from a shadowy organization that rules the world through mass surveillance, propaganda, and political coercion.

Sounds like a pretty normal day  🙂

Afterwards we might get to enjoy a MISC conference debriefing, so stick around!
